I just ordered a 2.8ghz MBP from Mac Mall and it came out to:

Grand Total: $2,872.03.

(That's almost exactly what it would be with Apple's student discount + tax. It would come to over $3,000 without the student discount.

And it's with Fedex next day air. (Now i'm not assuming they'll have it in stock that soon, but it will hopefully assure that it will get here faster). I've read some interesting forum posts about MacMall and have a friend who has purchased from them. They get mixed reviews. I chose MacMall because I liked their financing options.

I figured some of you that aren't in school and are looking for a good deal might find this information useful.

Note: Beware, the MacMall return policy states that there are no Apple returns, period. (Unless of course they are defective). And yes, all Apple Macbooks come with the 1 year Apple Care attached.

Actually, you should be paying a use tax to your state of residence for importing the product unless your state doesn't have one (Delaware is an example).

It's just not a very enforced law.

I was under the impression that unless a business has an establishment in your state, you won't be paying sales tax.

Regardless, I have made countless Amazon orders this year and never paid sales tax (I'm in FL)!

That's true, because you don't owe sales tax to that business because you're not a resident of that state. It's set up that way because you should be paying that sales tax to your state.

While the business resides in another state, you're technically buying it from your state, and therefore your state is due the sales tax. Hardly no one actually denotes this on their taxes though :D It slips through the cracks.

That makes sense. Which is probably why Apple requires a ZIP code to estimate the sales tax. I suppose if you were in a state or ZIP that Apple did not have business setup it would be similar.

Nice.
