I am dealing for a 2007 MacMini, I already have one from 2006 to whom I upgraded the CPU from a Core 2 to a Core 2 Duo with increased clock speed, this other one I am dealing about comes with a 1.83 Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and a 256GB SSD with the addition of a DVI to HDMI cable and as such I was thinking to make of it a little media server for music and some MP4 videos, dunno if the CPU is still on a socket and upgradable and, if so, if worth the pain for the use I might make of it and if 10.7.x is the max supported OS.

Thank you

Giovanni

I've got one of those minis too. Kept it on 10.6.8. Let us know if you're successful swapping in a faster CPU.

I upgraded my 2006 CoreDuo models to T7200s at the time, as the T7600 still commanded silly money.
Socket 479, and definitely worth doing from the slower CoreDuo CPUs.

Always found performance on Lion a bit poorer, I moved to Windows 7 and never looked back.
Still have one at home, but no idea what to do with it. :(

For 30-40$ it sure worth the pain, only pain is to find the plastic screws, for the other surgery I used plastic strips since the screws I found didn't fit :-(

Even though I have 3 other working Macs, a MBPro late 2011 with i7 cpu and spinning hard drive, an 11" Air with i5 and ssd and a 13" Air with i5 and ssd I gotta say that the quickest machine is the Mini I upgraded the cpu to and it's not because a Core 2 Duo is faster but because Mac OS X got worse and worse, closer and closer to iOs but I want a computer and not a phone with an 11-13-15 screen...
