MacMini 2010 SL, can it have 2TB, 16GB and no superdrive?

I happen to have both a MacMini 2010 Snow Leopard and a MacMini 2012 Mountain Lion. The 2012 ML has been upgraded to 16GB. Questions are regarding the 2010 Snow Leopard MacMini"

1)Can I remove the superdrive, and put 2x 1TB drives in it? Will operating without the Superdrive create some glitch for the OS X?

2)Can I take the 16GB memory from the 2012 MacMini and put it in the 2010 MacMini? The exact memory I have is below:

The 2010 server version of the Mini is just the regular machine in a housing without a slot for the DVD drive. Yours will work fine with two hard disks in it.

No, the 2010 Minis are very particular about the RAM they can use. You must use only PC3-8500 1066 MHz RAM, no faster in order to work.

So on SL it would probably not work with 16 GB even if you got the right pc3-8500 1066 MHz

Can I RAID the 2 internal SSDs? Or at least combine them into 1 disk? I want to put 2x1TB and make it a 2TB system!

Good point. You would need to be on 10.7.5 or later.

You can, but it doubles your risk of data loss as you'd be configured in what's known as a striped array, or RAID 0. The benefit is that it's faster and larger, but if either drive fails, all your data is lost.

I purchased a SATA caddy for a 1TB hard drive to replace the optical drive. I believe it operates at SATA I speeds (The Apple USB Superdrive works fine with the 2010 mini at a pinch.)

I also purchased a replacement case without the drive slot for $70 from eBay, for appearances sake.

I have the OWC sata III kit, I dont think it makes any diference because of the sata ports on the motherborad, but thats the connect Im gonna use, as its in hand already

16GB does not work in all 2010 Mac Mini's

I have a 2.4Ghz 2010 Mac Mini 4,1 (with the drive slot, not server). And the EFI has been updated to 1.5.

Using 2x DDR3 PC3-8500 SODIMM 1066MHz modules, the Mac just beeps immediately upon power on. Never starts to load the OS or anything. Works fine with the factory 2x 2GB (4GB).

Anything else to try?

I had the same problem with a 2010 Mini when I installed no-name RAM that I bought on eBay. Later, I installed the RAM that was recommended in a different thread (Corsair?) and it worked fine.
