Hello,

I use my old 2010 MacMini Core 2 Duo as a media server for music to stream uncompressed music to a DAC, space is low and it bothers me to tear it apart to upgrade the internal drive to an SSD (I do have a 500GB one but last time I attempted on another Mini I tore apart the connection with remote control and the front led, no more attempts...), I'd stick an SD card in the back slot to load music onto it, would like to know which is the max memory size accepted and in which file system should I format it.

Grazie

As per Apple's website, SDXC support on Mac mini started on 2011 model. Therefore, 2010 Mac mini only support SD or SDHC. As per wikipedia, SDHC card can only go up to 32GB.

I would say, if you have these USB SD card reader on hand, it will works better.

@Aoligei thank you so much for your reply, I will try with what I have handy otherwise might try with a USB stick, same question, which file system for both?

If you are going to move between Mac and Windows, it should be exFAT. Most SD card will pre-formatted to exFAT. I usually leave as exFAT.
