I have a Mid 2010 mac mini, which supports 8GB ram. Whenever I put 8gb in the computer, it wont boot. More specifically, it just beeps. I've tried the following:

The error occurs when there are 2 slots of memory in the computer. I take the higher level memory chip out, and it boots fine. I've also swapped this chip with my other 4gb chip, and that works. Only issue is that it wont accept 2 chips at once. Through my trial/error, I've determined both chips work.

Is my Mac faulty or am I doing something wrong? Warranty is expired so any advice would be appreciated.

the 2010 mac mini is very picky with ram.

I have upgraded
2006
2007
2008
2009
2010
and 2011

minis many many minis. More then 200

I had more trouble with maxing the ram on a 2010 mini then any other mini. The most successful ram was samsung the second most successful was pny. I will look for a link.

Don't worry quite yet. My guess is it could be ram not inserted completely or the ram is incompatible with the 2010 Mini.

So...when you install the ram make sure it's fully seated in their slots. When I installed 8GB my Mini didn't recognize it either. Found out I had one stick not fully inserted. Mine seemed to be rather tightly fitting so make sure it's all the way in before powering up.

I bought my ram from from OWC and I agree with the previous post they can be picky about ram. When I read some reviews at Newegg there were some posts about some ram not working in Minis nor in mac books. At that point I decided to stick with ram from OWC. I had bought from them before without issues whatsoever.

MacMini Memory Issues

I have the macmini 2010 and 2011 MBP 13in. I bought crucial 16gb memory for the MBP and decided to see if the macmini would recognize it. The macmini booted up fine w/the 16gb DDR3 memory and recognized both sticks. I left it in the macmini to test and everything seemed to work fine.
