I am looking of getting a second monitor for my mini connected through the HDMI port. I'd like to be able to use the monitor with my xbox as well.

My question is wheather or not the mini will be able to tell when I switch the imputs on the second monitor and adjust the screen to display all apps on the main monitor?

It should automatically adjust, but only if you remove the HDMI cable from the back of the Mini. If you have an HDMI switch and switch inputs when you want to play your Xbox, then the Mini will not change; you will have to change the setting yourself.

I have mine setup with dual monitors. One one the HDMI port and one on the Thunderport using a mini display adapter. The one thing I noticed is that the HDMI monitor is always the second monitor. I would like to get the HDMI recognized as the first to be my main display. Any ideas? I did try to make the change in the display settings but that didn't work.

To answer your question, the Mac mini will not be able to tell when you switch the input on your 2nd monitor. If you were to disconnect it, however, the Mac would recognize the change and move the windows appropriately.
