It not junk. I have 2009 MacBook and I do everything on it. Games, office, development etc. I tried HS and Sierra doing the unsupported method and it was ok but really slow performance. El Capitan is still great! Don’t give up hope :)

No, it is not just no. You probably will like El Capitan. I had it on my old 2008 MB Pro, and have it currently on my MB Air.

The minimum requirements for World of Warcraft are here. It says minimum macOS 10.10.x. I don't know how to interpret the video card requirements in regards to your iMac.

Why do you think you need a system OS upgrade?

I just took a look at this very recent article from Battle.net, and what's holding you back is not your top available OS, as 10.11 El Capitan is allowed for the Battle Of Azeroth expansion. It's your processor. The new minimum requirement is a Intel Core i5. A Core 2 Duo apparently doesn't meet the WoW spec anymore.

I agree with SlooksterPSV though; your Mac is not junk. There are still a lot of things you can do with it-- surf the net, watch video, use as an iTunes server, office productivity, etc.
