macOS 10.15.4 is issuing warnings about future driver incompatibilities

Prolific software I have on that mac is a serial over USB driver, highly essential ...

FWIW: the driver is likely rather old, but it was the first time there was a warning about this, 10.15, 10.15.1, 10.15.2 and 10.15.3 never gave this warning.

I tried updating the driver to the most recent I could find, didn't get any popup warning anymore, but when diggign in the system info, there's still these that say "Dependencies: Deprecated"

Interesting, I didn't know that!
I'll have to test it on another machine.

I could be wrong and thinking of cypress though! unless it's both, it certainly had at some time in last couple of major releases snuck some default driver for at least one or two of the typical UART's in, though I seem to recall there was some edge cases for slightly non standard chip id's that didn't properly work

Just installed the Prolific driver and it bricked my Mac. It won’t even start in Safe Mode.

OS 10.15.5

Beware.

Try a SMC reset. What year and model of Mac are you using?

Thanks. I did. No dice. It's a late-2014 iMac. I was able to recover by booting into Recovery Mode and using Terminal to delete the kext.

Prolific is notorious for shìtty drivers.
