Oddly enough, my M1 Pro MacBook Pro isn't picking up ANY Sonoma Public Betas. Not sure what is going on but at least my device isn't seeing this yet.

Unusually fast install after it did the download and prep. Download was a 2.00 GB download for M1 Macs.

Also odd that for last 36 mins no MacOS 14.5 RC MacRumors article posted at all. Too much of a May 7th love fest I guess.

No mention of the fact it fixes the random frequent crashes they introduced with 14.4.x, which apple support blamed on my 'third party apps'. Wow, changing only their software makes my 3rd party apps (required for work) to magically break and unbreak. Dishonest.

Are you referring only to the RC, or did earlier 14.5 betas resolve that? (we had four seeds before the RC)

I've repeatedly reported a blackscreen issue since last year: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-14-0-rc1-is-buggy-now-let-me-try-rc2.2403792/

After 14.4, the blackscreen triggers a kernel panic. However, still exists on 14.5 RC.
It happens on a Macbook Air M2 model, each time when you plugin the power cable while the lid is closed.

Apple has never care about their customers, from 8GB memory to kernel panic on old machines (M2 is not such old), FK YOU COOK.

Wait so it happens every time you plug it in with lid closed? If so, it sounds like a corrupted install.

hmm, i also have an M2 air, and nothing like that happening here. call apple! this is an issue you're having, not a bug we're all having.

"Apple has never care about their customers' etc is just ugly ranting, and says and means... nothing.

Did you do backup to an external ASR volume (USB-C SSD) and then make an appointment with Apple Store staff to run a DFU Restore?

Restore will 100% wipe and redo the OS/FW to factory specs. Reinstalling the OS is not the same. Schedule an appointment with Apple Store staff. The ASR volume you created is the means to bring back all your system settings, applications and data.

Thanks for the advice, but factory reset is a bit troublesome. Kernel panic is just incorrect statements in apple's **** code, I don't think reset may help.

The cool thing about using DFU restore and migration assistant is you can go back to any MacOS version that it was working OK, yes the correct OS/FW pairing. Regular MacOS reinstall can't do that. Migration assistant will also screen out incompatible files for the MacOS version you are restoring to.

safari / some streaming platforms (looking at you Sportsnet) still ignore the systems captions setting. Have to enable closed captions and then disable them anytime a stream is started to just enforce the system setting being off in the first place. What's great is that it's not even a UI option anymore within the streaming platform, so the only place to set this is just ignored. Chrome is fine, maintains the CC option in stream.

Just upgraded macOS to 14.5 (build 23F79) and I must say, it's been a smooth ride! Safari is now snappier than ever, and the battery life has significantly improved. All regular apps are functioning perfectly. :p

Just updated to 14.5 public release. External monitor (Dell) no longer works. Changed cables, shutdown, restart...nada.

Any ideas?

Edit:
So i unplugged the monitor, unplugged the HDMI cable bit display settings are still showing two monitors. Built-in & Dell. Apple Music mini player was on the external screen and according to Mac, still is? So with no power, no display cable, my Mac still thinks it's connected.

How do i remove an external screen from Sonoma?
