macOS Big Sur doesn't remember menu bar icon placement

Hi guys,

So after installing macOS Big Sur the icons in the menu bar were completely scrambled. I re-arranged them but after rebooting they were scrambled again. Anyone else having the same issue?

Hold down the command key and then drag them to where you want them.

By holding down "CMD" and then dragging an icon around.

Yes, it was an issue in the betas also.

It was doing that even on Catalina. I have reported it during the beta phase with no luck of it being fixed.

Seems that, for me, it remembers the system icons but scrambles 3rd party icons depending on the order they start up at boot.

This has been a problem for many users since the ability to rearrange the icons existed. There are multiple ways around it. You can, for instance, remove everything from the Startup Items System Prefs and then use Automator to launch all those items in the order you want them to appear with a pause in between each app. Another option is to use an app like Bartender to manage your menubar items.

What's more annoying in Big Sur is the inability to move or hide the System Clock icon.
