Hello all,
I am supporting a customer who mainly has MacBook Pro models from 2017-2019 in use. All devices are running macOS Catalina version 15.*.*.
The MacBooks access a Windows file server in the 1&1 Ionos Cloud via a site-to-site VPN (firewall in the office > firewall in the data center). The Macbooks have tremendous performance & stability issues when accessing the server's provisioned drives.
Navigation between directories on the drives is sluggish.
Opening files (even small .pdfs with few KB) very sluggish.
As a result, employees suffer tremendously, as effective work is impossible.
What was tested:
Access from Office with a new Macbook Air M1 and an older Windows machine (Win10) >> Here the performance is normal, much faster than with the Macbooks with Catalina.
Thus I would not see the problem in the internal network or file server.
I have read a lot about performance problems with macOS and SMB.
Has anyone here experience and can possibly help me ?
Greetings
Alex
