Hi,
is here a discussion about this already?

I have a WD ssd in external case and Disk Utility tells that the type is "Disk" (not "Solid State").
Is there a reason to think about trim command?

Is there external ssd's that are identified right?
System Information tells, that my case is:
Code:
VLI Product String:

  Product ID: 0x0715
Vendor ID: 0x2109 (VIA Labs, Inc.)
  Version: 1.31
  Serial Number: 000000123ADA
  Speed: Up to 10Gb/sec
  Manufacturer: VLI Manufacture String
  Location ID: 0x01100000 / 1
  Current Available (mA): 500
  Current Required (mA): 896
  Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

Is the drive connected via USB3?
TRIM does not work with USB3.

Does the SSD work?
What kind of speeds do you get from it?
You should get read speeds of about 420-430mbps over USB3.

If you get that, stop worrying.
It works.

Looks like 3-400MB/s write and 4-500MB/s read.
It is connected through usb3.1, usb-c, 10Gbit/s.
