Just poking around Catalina to get familiar... In System Preferences > Security & Privacy, there is a tab for "Firewall" and it's off by default.

I don't have a hardware or software firewall on my network (at least I don't think I do. I use a Linksys Velop wi-fi router - not sure if it has one on by default).

Should I use this the macOS Firewall?

Yes, why not.

Any all-in-one router is going to have a firewall enabled by default, so you are certainly behind one on your home network. You can enable it on your Mac if you want, but it won't do much if you have no applications listening for incoming connections.

I would just enable it anyway.
