Hello there,
Just bought my first MacBook ever and I am very happy with it so far. Great design, keyboard, display, very light ...
And the performance, WOW!

It is MacBook Air M1 with macOS Monterey 12.1.

I am trying to find a way to install Bulgarian language spelling (spell check).
I have read this thread and tried to paste the Bulgarian .aff and .dic files from OpenOffice in ~/Library/Spelling/, but it does not seem to work. I am unable to see the Bulgarian language in Keyboard -> Text -> Spelling drop-down.
Also I am not seeing any of the languages that already exist there in the ~/Library/Spelling directory ...

Am I missing something?

Any help or advice is much appreciated!
Cheers!

Thanks for the tip, but I have MS Office 2019 installed and it has its own spell check.

I am trying to set the spelling to be native for the whole OS, like as I am writing this post, the English-US spelling is offering me suggestions and marks wrongly spelled words, but when I switch to write in Bulgarian it does not.

Download only the Translated User Interface: български
Current link https://download.documentfoundation...breOffice_7.2.4_MacOS_aarch64_langpack_bg.dmg
Open the dmg, the files that are you interested in are in the archive /Volumes/LibreOffice\ bg\ Language\ Pack/LibreOffice\ Language\ Pack.app/Contents/Resources/tarball.tar.bz2
Extract bg_BG.aff, bg_BG.dic, hyph_bg_BG.dic and place them in ~/Library/Spelling/
Open System Preferences and you should see български at the end of the list.

Hi, guys! I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro Mid 2015 with macOS Monterey 12.7.2 installed (latest version). I used this guide:

Downloaded libreoffice-dictionaries-VERSION.tar.xz from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/#change . Then extracted it and copy the files from dictionaries/bg_BG/ to Library/Spelling. First I copied only the bg_BG.aff and bg_BG.dic files but then I saw this thread and added the hyph_bg_BG.dic file. Actually I can see the the Bulgarian option [Български (Library)] in Spelling menu in System Preferences/Keyboard/Text -

The problem is that it doesn't work. I'm writing wrong in Bulgarian and it doesn't highlight my wrong spelled words. There is no problem in English though. I even left only the Bulgarian and English ticked in the Set Up... menu but there's no difference.

I would be very grateful if you can help me! Thank you in advance!

In what app are you writing and it doesn’t work?
In LibreOffice make sure you select the language of the document to be Bulgarian.
Selecting the Document Language https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/guide/language_select.html
It doesn't work in any app. Notes, Messenger, Viber, Chrome (Facebook fox example).

I did the settings in Libre office correctly. Actually Bulgarian is my default language at the moment:

But when I start to write a new document the spell check doesn't work correctly. Here I made a lot of mistakes on purpose but like you can see there is no highlighted text:

If you haven’t already, restart your Mac. It might make the dictionary available to all apps.

I already did a couple of restarts playing around but I've just done another one just in case. Actually it highlighted some of the wrong spelled words but only small amount. Most of them are still ignored.

Did you follow the guide you linked and only added bg_BG.aff and bg_BG.dic?
You should add hyph_bg_BG.dic too.
The files can be downloaded directly from https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/dictionaries/plain/bg_BG/
They are identical to the ones from libreoffice-dictionaries-___.tar.xz and LibreOffice______MacOS_x86-64_langpack_bg.dmg

By the way, Apple has added Bulgarian in Ventura and Sonoma.
https://www.apple.com/macos/feature-availability/
I wonder if Apple's files could be moved to Monterey.

I added the hyph_bg_BG.dic too. I also tried with the files from the directory you shared - nothing changed. There is some kind of a spellcheck, sometimes, on some words but it's unusable most of the time as it doesn't highlight most of the mistakes and misspelled words.

As I can see when I'm writing text in Bulgarian in the LibreOffice app - it works almost da same way - crappy. Is it just possible that the dictionary of Libre Office is bad? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Is there any place where I can take those dictionary files from Ventura or Sonoma?
