macOS Photos needs edit history not just revert to original

Picture this, you make lots of adjustment then edit in multiple external editors or extensions, you realise one edit was bad and you want to go back to that state to redo it but you can only go right back to the original using "revert to original"

It would be great if macOS photos had the option to view previous edits instead of just reverting to original if you edit in an external editor. A way around this is of course to duplicate the photo at each stage (taking snapshots) to revert back to if required.

This post is referring to when editing using the numerous external plugins. Perhaps someone could even make an extension for this.

Join the OS X beta progam and make that recommendation to Apple.

Yeah, but add that to the list of stuff that Photos just isn't. Snapshots too. And batching and presets and all that. If you need that functionality then perhaps using something else is the way to go; I kinda doubt Photos will have evolve to have that sort of Aperture-ish capability. Sheesh, it's hard to even do comparisons in Photos, and without versions or virtual copies it's hard to keep track of that...which is why people use Capture One or Lr or whatever instead.

Yep, move on to Lr, C1P, or Affinity. Don't waste time on trailing edge apps.

If you edit in an external app, adjustments are not going to make the trip anyway unless you export a version. I can understand wanting history as it would make it easier to change within Photos prior to export. But the fact you're going outside in the first place suggests Photos is not sufficient for you. Time to switch.

I actually filed a ticket with Apple on the need for edit history and they came back fairly quickly to say that they weren't going to do it. They almost never get back to me quickly on anything, so that probably answers that question for you .
