Untested Issues

  • Time Machine causes kernel panics - if you experience this issue either unplug the drive or set TM to run manually. NOTE - seems to be a beta 2 issue
  • Alarms may not play when your display is asleep for a long period of time (FB10086690)
    • Workaround: Make your display not fall asleep in Settings > Lock Screen > Turn display off on ____ when inactive. You can turn your brightness off.
    • Issue present since macOS 13.0
  • General Bluetooth reliability issues (mouse and keyboard lag, audio lag, audio distortion) with 3rd party and Apple accessories per reports on Reddit and elsewhere.
Additional Notes
  • Please know, Memory Management has always been an issue on any OS (not just Apple's). If you believe there is a Memory Leak, please go to the Apple Menu > Restart > Restart to fix it.
  • When a new macOS release comes out, all issues automatically go to "Untested Issues" until they are moved by someone. Issues that stay in Untested for 3 releases (beta or smooth) will be removed from all future threads. When there is a new macOS release, please be sure to let us know about the issue's status by moving it to either "Remaining Issues" or "Resolved Issues"
  • macOS 15 Sequoia will be installed via a Delta Update in System Settings. Please be aware about this and the update won’t install with an installer.

can you elaborate on this?
Version 15.2 introduced a problem with some monitor models, when directly connected monitor would show up in the taskbar as "extended" and "mirrored". The "stop extending" button either didn't work for some users, or it would disable the only monitor in the system. There are currently several threads about this issue in the forum thread.
On Reddit, some users were helped by change the monitor's role in the betterdisplay, but for me personally, this didn't change the situation.

My issue when using an LG OLED C3 42" TV is that whenever I would use Apple Vision Pro virtual Mac display....and tried to go to my regular OLED TV by clicking "END Session" it would crash my entire system. Causing a silent kernel panic. So there was a risk of data loss. I couldn't understand why but maybe I can look through these forums to see if anyone else encountered this. It basically became so bad that I dug up my apple studio displays from my basement to use out of precaution. I'd rather use my beautiful 42" screen truthfully. Did you experience any crashing?

Did you experience any crashing?
I haven't had any problems like yours, but on Sonoma a couple of times a month, the MacBook Pro 14 on the M1 Pro rebooted with a kernel panic after sleep with an external monitor connected, if several programs were running that actively use video memory (Photoshop + Lightroom, for example).

On the M4 Pro Mac Mini, there hasn't been a single crash yet.

No crashes here too until now. When something crashed in the beta phase it was mostly a beta or alpha app anyway and if not it got fixed with an update within a few days. Or it was Safari.

Seems there will be no full installer. 15.1 had none until Beta 4. I am not sure but I think 15.2 also had no full installer for the first beta.

Is anyone here using IINA, VLC or Elmedia Player? There seems to be some video problems again, often they don't even start. But this time QuickTime is affected too, at least the videos are playable. I have only installed IINA at the moment and will tust other free players later.

If you click somewhere in the progress bar it takes very long for the video to continue and the image could freeze and you only hear the correct sound.

There was a similar problem in early 15.1 betas I think. But at least QuickTime worked normally and also Movist Pro. It was fixed later without an update for the players. At least IINA gets very rarely updated for the others I don't know if they got an update in that time.

I'll try Movist Pro again, it's in Setapp that I need to install before or maybe it has a trial...

Tried movist Pro now. It can play the video but has also displaying problems when you skip to another position. In Elmedia Player the video doesn't even start.

Those are MP4 downloads from YouTube, but I think not all are affected.

IINA was very broken for me in 15.2. What works for me is MPV, free, very fast. Infuse plays back perfectly too - definitely test Infuse before considering Movist Pro.

I think IINA is better in 15.3 than it was in 15.2, but it's not perfect. I can reproduce the "seek" "seek" "BEACHBALL" with a bit of effort.

I never noticed any playback problems with QuickTime Player, but it's always more particular about what input files it will play.

Thanks, I'll try MPV.

I just saw Movist also has a free version with less functionality in the App Store. I still have a running Setapp subscription that includes Movist Pro and the paid version of the Elmedia Player, but I now installed the trial of Movist Pro. There are reasons I don't want to use Setapp anymore. But sometimes I install it again. I already bought a few small apps out of it, although the subscription is still running several months.

I think it is depending on the codec, resolution, frame rate or whatever, when QuickTime is also affected. Not sure about other file types, that don't run in QuickTime like webm or mkv. I sometimes get those when I download a Livestream too early after it has ended.

If you want to use it not directly to update, the "Install macOS Sequoia Beta.app" file has to be moved or copied out of the Application folder, otherwise it will get deleted when you quit this:

Direct link to the package file not available (yet).
