Right now, is not possible to run Sequoia betas with a MacPro6,1. After the release, maybe and with a lot of caveats related to the missing AVX2 support.

Apps that require AVX2 support will never run, or never run correctly, like several of current Adobe apps.

Btw, before anyone asks if is possible to replace the processor, there is no Intel processor (i7 or Xeon) that supports AVX2 and works with the MacPro6,1 LGA2011-2 socket.

Only LGA2011-3 i7s and Xeons V3/V4 have AVX2 support - these have exact same FCLGA 2011 physical socket, but with a different electrical pin-out and requiring a new chipset/motherboard - these are called R3 or FCLGA 2011-3 for differentiation.

The FCLGA 2011-3 CPUs are not compatible with 2013 Mac Pro or even FCLGA 2011 PC motherboards - different chipset/VRM and etc.

I found that Ventura runs very smoothly and reliably on the 6,1. Sonoma seems to be having a few issues, with some of them more than likely related to the lack of AVX2 support on this model, but also some glitches here and there even on supported Intel machines.

While I'm waiting for OCLP to become compatible with Sequoia, and applauding once more the work of the OCLP team, I'm still skeptical as to how Sequoia will be able to run on "aging" Intel Macs, as Apple is, sadly but understandably, putting more energy on silicon.

Hi,
FYI, I'm running macOS Sequoia on a Mac Pro 6,1 2013 with OCLP 2.0.1 since 2 days ago, and I saw no problem so far.
+1 as above.... Speed tests show not increase or decrease in speed ... all "general" usability apps are ok and functioning ; I will check to see if there is any hope ( probably not ) of FaceTime video bug being fixed with the update ( They see me but I don't see them with the older Thunderbolt Display 27") . With best wishes and extreme extreme huge thanks to the OCLP team !!!! Like WOW :)

The Chrome browser of Mac Pro 6,1 still has problems in Sequoia system and will seriously slow down the system response speed. Other Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc. all run normally.

Update: Just FYI

All still well ... as predicted the FaceTime bug ( they can see my video feed but I can't see them ) still in full effect and not resolved. Truly perplexing. Other apps ( Zoom/Microsoft Teams) work as intended.

With best wishes !

Hi,

After 3 or 4 days of testing macOS Sequoia 15.0 / OCLP 2.0.1 on MacPro6,1, I can report the following problems :

- The GRC's ShieldsUp network security test (https://www.grc.com/) can't be completed (stops before end) with Firefox (130.0.1 / 64 bits), but is OK with Safari. It runs fine on Firefox on another computer (MacBook Pro 2018 with Sequoia too) ;

- It's impossible to maintain a remote desktop connection with Anydesk more than 30 seconds (connection is OK from another computer) ;

- It's impossible to use these browsers : Google Chrome (Red spots appears on all open windows) and Brave (same problem).

- FaceTime Bug.

Regards

installed Sequoia on my 6,1 with latest OCLP and it’s been pretty good with one caveat Safari worked for a minute then stops loading websites and internet connection drops to non, if I only use Firefox and don’t launch safari Firefox works as it should, safari seems to also glitch my router if I launch it. I have seen turning off firewall fixes it for some or turning it on, neither works for me, I installed Sequoia onto my Mac Pro 5,1 and Safari was working with it until I tried a clean install on my 6,1 Safari worked again for a bit then quit and the 5,1 followed suit. Could be something to do with my router Sequoia combo, local network works fine, router says it’s connected to the internet but some other devices stop being able to access the internet until I reboot the router.

I have not had this issue my has been pretty good, every once in a while it will stutter when opening windows or apps but not enough to go back to Monterey.

Still not sure what causes the issue Sonoma runs fine, I have tried clean install or Sequoia but no luck. Safari just does not want to access the internet, many other folks having networkk issues as well. Could be a combo of things like type of router, etc.

I was able to fix the issue with Safari by doing a clean install of Sequoia and not logging into icloud during the initial install when asked to log into icloud I hit skip. It seems the syncing of my icloud safari bookmarks etc caused it to not work when I did login on all my other install attemps on two mac pros 5,1 and 6,1, some kind of glitch. I tested safari and all was working, then I logged into icloud and allowed safari to sync and it still works... go figure! this is on my 5,1 but will try the 6,1 next as it has the same issue.

For what it's worth, I'm using Ungoogled Chromium on my 6,1 with Sequoia, and having no issues.

Hi!
I tried the same but my Mac reboot suddenly and constantly. I know that it must be a kernel panic, but no idea why?
Do you have something like this?

what steps did you use to install sequoia, upgrade or clean install

I installed the Ungoogled Chromium but it doesn't work either. I just get a screen like this.

weirdly enough, I have the feeling that Chrome works when Firefox is open first... But it might just be plain superstition
