macOS Sierra 10.12

Hi Everyone,

I have a late 2011mbp 13 inch, 512gb sad, 16 ram. Currently running El Capitan 10.11.16. to surf the web, email and word processing is what I use this machine for. Is there any benefit and will macOS Sierra run on my MBP?

I have heard mixed messages and wanted to get other options.

it should run just fine, as far as benefits go for your use, only you can be the judge of that.

I have a very similar machine, a late 2011MBP 13 inch, 256gb sad, with 16 ram, and it runs Sierra 10.12.6 very well. You also get all the latest security updates, some of which will not be updated in El Cap.
My pet peeve with Sierra is the default folder icon's garish bright green color. That can be rectified using the disable SIP terminal command from the recovery partition, and after a reboot, using Liteicon (https://roaringapps.com/app/liteicon) and some folders from the DeviantArt HP (http://www.deviantart.com/art/PixeloPhilia2-166570194 etc).
You can reenable SIP after that by rebooting to the recovery partition (terminal commands shown below).
csrutil disable, csrutil enable

I have a similar machine (Late 2011, 12 GB of ram, 850 EVO) and I can safely say that Sierra is worth the upgrade on these older machines, as they can still pump out decent performance, and you'll get all the new features that come along with the newer OS. If you're just using a computer for the tasks that you specified, there will be no observable performance change between versions.

It shouldn’t matter. I’ve not done a clean install since Panther.

I personally only do clean installs for betas, so I suggest just go ahead and upgrade.
