Hi!!

Today I was received an email from Apple to upgrade to MacOS Sierra GM, and like all years, I do it!!

But this time I was surprised with a "Wi-Fi: no hardware installed"...

I have a MacPro 4.1@5.1 with original Airport module (I have here to install a new BCM94360CD, but i'm waiting the adapter) and this monrning was working perfect!! (I was downloaded the 4.7Gb upgrade!!)

I was done the fix of remove the .plist of /library/preferences/systemconfiguration but nothing... I'm without wifi...

Some idea??

Thanks!

4,1 is NOT officially supported in Sierra. From memory, the stock Wi-Fi card model number can be different than the real 5,1. And someone did reported that a particular 4,1 Wi-Fi card not working in Sierra.

It seems you may have to work without Wi-Fi until the adaptor arrive.

Anyway, next time you better just create a small partition (or use a separate HDD) and try to make a clean installation, test all MUST have function / software before you perform a big OSX upgrade.

If h9826790 is right, you could try something that was often used in hackintosh building few years ago - delete wifi kext in System/Library/Extensions/ that comes with Sierra and use one from El Capitan.
You should have SIP disabled and afterwards rebuild cache and permissions.

Be advised that it can lead to kernel panics on boot and making whole system useless.
Also, it could fix the problem you have until someone make same kind of patch or you change your WiFi card.

Sierra can't use the WiFi kexts from El Capitan, I and others have tried it before.

Right now the only solution is a hardware AirPort card upgrade to a newer supported one, something it looks like the OP is already in the process of doing. I did this in an unsupported MacBook Air and WiFi now works fine in Sierra.

The AirPort Extreme model 0x14E4, 0x8E, Firmware Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.17),
which was build into MP 4,1, is working with Sierra.

if that helps, mine on a 5.1 is:

Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8E)
Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.24)

this is the stock card what 1.1 to 3.1 have, no Sierra wifi support. My 3.1 with this card does not support wifi on Sierra also.
[doublepost=1473979062][/doublepost]I have Apple AR5BXB72 Cards what work in Sierra. If one is located in Europe pm me ;-)
