Anyone else noticed that often the menu bar is missing items? I'm not entirely sure what the trigger is yet, but it seems related to periods of standby, possibly when connected to a Studio Display but I'm far from certain about that.

I usually end up with just two or three menu items displayed, the rest just not there. Nothing I can do that fixes it simply.

So far I've found that log out/log in fixes the problem, but that's a pain.

Is your ASD connected to a laptop or desktop model.. and which model Mac? Which application(s) are "in front" when the menu items go missing? Do you have Stage Manager enabled or disabled?

My ASD is connected to a 2019 Intel MBP 16". Stage Manager is disabled.

Running apps don't seem to make a difference. I can walk away with any app or no app in the foreground - just a clean desktop - and if the unit goes to sleep for a period of time, icons will have vanished. I've not determined what period is significant.

Overnight sleeps definitely cause the problem. Whether short term sleeps do is yet to be determined.

Log out/log in always fixes it. Reboot always fixes it.

Have you filed a bug report with Apple? Or called?

MacAir M2. After installing Sonoma, my search bar no longer has the circled + icon for adding to reading list. Customize toolbar feature no help. I have to select the bookmarks menu, then select "add to reading list".
Update: deselected widgets, and maybe a couple other things of no interest, and the icon is back. "KISS" method for me, please, Apple.

can confirm the same issue (running sonoma 14.0 on a macbookpro11,5 (mid-2015 15 dual-GPU) using OCLP 1.0.1). Waking from prolonged (~10h) sleep, unlock my open session to a menubar missing time, the spotight icon and the control center icon. Rebooting fixed it.

Actually, being able to remove that goddamn useless control center thing might make it a feature!

Next time it happens - try sign out and sign in. It works for me, and it's quicker.

Hi,

same with a 13th 2018 MBP connected to an ASD. I'm losing some apple icons like the clock and the sound and the control center but keeping Time Machine, keyboard, and 3rd party stuff. I'm not sure wether it's related to sleep or to plugging/unplugging from the ASD...
Super annoying, and been there since the first release of Sonoma...!

I find that this seems to be related to my Apple Studio Display. If the MBP is disconnected, or the display is switched off, then Sonoma doesn't handle this well and when it tries to re-establish a fresh display with a new resolution (my guess, here) the bug bites. It is inconsistent though. Sometimes none of the above cause it to happen, but it doesn't happen without one of these two stimuli, for me.

Hello all: I ran into an issue like this and have spent about 4 to 5 hours on support calls to both Adobe and Apple. I am running on a Mac Mini M1 (base model) and I have Adobe Creative Cloud. I have re-installed all Adobe software, triple-checked permissions, etc. This included a guided install from Adobe during the support call. Adobe has decided it is a user account problem. What is going on is that Adobe Creative Cloud is running at system startup and all my apps (such as Photoshop) run fine. A couple of days ago, the menu bar item disappeared and has not come back despite all the efforts to figure out what is going on. Adobe had me create a test user and the menu bar icon immediately appeared when I logged into the test user (this was a regular user and no admin privileges). It has worked every since I got this machine and even for a solid month since upgrading to Sonoma. I am not sure what I can do about this weird quirk.

Apple determined that everything is properly configured on my machine. I am curious if anyone else has seen this and then how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance.

My impression is that Sonoma in general is still not very solid, and especially Adobe has spent a long time getting it to work well with their apps, and that they're not completely there yet. I've tried Sonoma 14.3 and 14.5 for some days or a couple of weeks on two occations, and encountered problems both times (not specifically w/adobe, though).

So, I'm back on Ventura on both my macs. Solid as a rock.

It's not related to Adobe but to Apple! I have no Adobe app installed and yet some menu bar items missing (even Apple's) when unplugging/plugging my MBP from my ASD (typically at night when leaving my job). Apple doesn't seem to be concerned...!

Are the missing menu bar times added by third-party applications? Disable, restart, and then re-enable.

Do I understand correctly that everything works as expected on a clean new user account? If so, then something got screwed up in your current account (possibly all kinds of issues accumulated through the years).

Just create a new admin account, move there anything you need to move from your current account, then delete the old account.

Normally, Creative Cloud should work with no issues on the latest version of Sonoma.

Before/After. Apple's own icons disappeared in the air...

This still happens repeatedly on two Intel MacBook Pro units, both running latest macOS.

It's related to disconnecting from the Apple Studio Display. Previously only one MacBook in the office showed this symptom but when a second machine, previously connected to a Thunderbolt Display began connecting to a replacement ASD (because the TB failed) it started to show the same symptom.

It's not a 100% reproducible fault, but the best trigger is to disconnect the laptop from the display whilst the laptop is in clamshell mode. Most of the time, doing this will trigger the problem. If the laptop is open and it's display active when disconnecting, I've never had it happen.

Also turning off power to the ASD whilst connected to the MBP in clamshell mode will trigger the same result most of the time.

Logging out and in, or a reboot, seems to be the only way to clear the issue and restore the icons. For the two machines we have, it's a mixture of third party and Apple's own icons.

Thank you, I'll try disconnecting before closing the laptop then.
