Hello!

I've been using my new MacBook Pro 16 inch M2 Max for 2 days, during that time I encountered a problem with Facebook Messenger App.
When I'm scrolling through my conversations messenger app becomes very laggy and slow. Generally its performance is very weak. I'm using macOS Sonoma. I didn't have chance to try messenger on previous macOS version, therefore I'm not sure if Sonoma system is the reason.

Have you also faced this?

Yep, it's something new, didn't use to be this laggy when scrolling on Ventura and Big Sur. The Messenger app is kind of a mess on several platforms tho. Not even usable on ChromeOS.

Me too. It happens both when using Bluetooth mouse or trackpad. The only way is using the scroll bar on the right.

Same story here. I even tried reinstalling it - no change. I hope they fix it soon, it is very annoying.

Same problem here.

At least in Sonoma you can now export a website as a web app in your dock. (Go to messenger.com in Safari, share, Add to dock). It's not perfect but it's a good option while waiting for an update to fix the issue.

Just found this thread... I tried everything : deleting the app, deleting all the files related to the app, updated macOS, still having extreme lagging when scrolling. Plus, every time I open messenger after I closed the program, it never remember the window size so I always have to resize it every time.

The strange thong about this is the app wasn't updated for a good month now. I think I've never seen the app not updated on macOS for so long.

Exact same scenario here in Denmark.
Problems with messenger in general recently becoming extreme laggy - both just ordinary browsing and especially videos.

I've tried uninstalling the messenger app, and reinstalling - nothing changes.

Machine: M1 Pro 2021
OS: MacOS 14.0

1. Delete messanger
2. Go to https://www.messenger.com/desktop and download it (don't go to App Store)
3. Go through the setting (cmd + ,) and enable the beta testing.
4. Go to Messanger -> Check for updates
5. Install and restart the app

It worked for my MacBook Pro, 16-inch, 2019, 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

Wow, it fixed the issue for me! Plus, it fixed the window always resetting when launching the app. I had this problem for months. Finally the app remember the window size and the lag disappeared. Thanks a lot.

I had a message saying it install things that could run in the background though. Hope it's nothing very harmful.
