Can anyone located in the EU check if the Phone app is working for them (is the phone app even visible in the EU region)? Thanks!

Thanks for the update! That's great news!

My guess is that Live Activities won't work as it seems that is tied to iPhone Mirroring.

iPhone Mirroring unfortunately won't work when you are signed in with an EU Apple Account in the App Store and are physically in the EU. If you travel outside the EU it will work...

I have read that you could switch your App Store account to a non-EU Apple Account. For some regions you would need to set a payment method (but apparently not for Canada, so you could choose that) and a real address (make something up, I guess?).
However, this means:
- losing access to current subscriptions
- losing access to media (Apple Music, Purchased Music, Purchased Books, Movies, TV Shows,...)

So I suppose you could make it work if the tradeoff is worth it.

It's unfortunate that we as EU citizens suffer the consequences of the EU and Apple's 'beef' with each other.

I am very happy that the EU forced Apple to put USB-C in all its devices (turned out it was possible after all!) but when it comes to iPhone Mirroring I don’t know/understand what the legal obstacle is.

My guess is that EU will require Mac / Android and Windows / iPhone support.

I wonder if it would be enough for the EU if Apple creates APIs that others can use to make interoperability with AirDrop and Mirroring work.

Yes, it would satisfy the DMA's requirement for "effective interoperability." But the bar is set very high meaning it has do everything on Windows and Android that you could do on a Mac. This means mirroring, notifications, app interaction, data transfer, security, etc. It's up to Apple if they want to allow such deep access.
