After using them uneventfully for about a year, abruptly they would emit no sound when using VLC media player (latest version) on an M1 Mac Mini running macOS Sequoia (latest). I toggled BlueTooth (BT) on and off, "forgot" and re-paired them, and finally, following instructions on Apple's official site, reset them*, restoring function for 1 day. During this time, they worked well with iPhone, iPad, and another Mac.

*per Apple's instructions, "forgetting" them via BT preferences, putting the pods in their case and closing the case for 30 seconds, then opening the case and leaving the lid open, holding down the one and only button on the case until the LED on the case flashed alternating white and amber (after about 15 seconds). Then I again paired them with the Mac mini.

When the problem recurred 2 days later, I began making the same sorts of changes, but added frequent restarts of the computer, and powered it down overnight once.

No remedy. Then, I noticed that the AirPods Pro 2 worked fine on the Mic Mini to produce sound in Music.app and Elmedia player, a different mp4 player.

This puzzled me. Only VLC on the Mac mini would cause sound to be made on the AirPods Pro 2. VLC on another Mac worked fine with the AirPods Pro 2.

OK, I thought, a cosmic ray zapped a crucial bit in my installation of VLC on the Mac mini. I deleted it, emptied the trash, restarted the Mac, and installed a freshly downloaded version of VLC media player, but the problem was not resolved.

Any suggestions?
