So I got a 1.5TB WD My Passport. it is USB 3.0 bus powered. I can't get it to do much besides mount on my 1.1 MacPro. Tried all ports. Works like a charm on my wifes last gen white MacBook (yrs old). Thinking it has to be something to do with lack of proper power from the USB 2.0 ports to power the drive. All for dropping a usb 3.0 PCI card. I see some require SATA power or molex runs. My 2 optical bays are empty and I'm not using my 2 onboard hidden SATA connections either. Any input of best way to go about this, or if it eve is my issue would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You can take out the drive and put it in the ODD bay if you like. It will run significantly hotter in that location tho.
I'd put a USB3 card in if it were me tho. I like the HighPoint cards as they're the only professional solution. But you can save $100 or so by installing one-a-dem Hong-Kong-Phewey cards for under $20. If you're having trouble with power already definitely get one with a molex connector - if you go the cheapy route.

Yeah, I think Apple changed some stuff out from underneath them and the best solution became just a new card design.
Myself I'll probably get the Mountain Lion one for my MP1,1 slash 2,1 so when I finally get around to using the boot-loader and installing 10.8.x (or 10.9 by that time probably LOL) it'll all just work. There's an outside chance that the new card has 64-bit firmware which may not work right in the 1,1 and 2,1 without boot-loading the 64-bit kernel. Thus I guess someone should check with HighPoint and ask this thing specifically of them.
OTOH, if you're sure you'll never install ML then get the 10.7 one - it's usually about $20 cheaper too.
