hay my mac pro 3.1 is not booting, dont know why.

press the power button and the front light lights up all fans spin but there seems to be no chime or display, what do i do?

i can get to the apple shop later in the week but id relay like to see if i can fix this fast as i have work to do so what are the normal trouble shooting steps i should do ?

iv checked its not the dvi cable (by plunging it in to my laptop and it works, even tried 2 cables both work on laptop not mac pro)

mac pro 3.1 2,8ghz 8 core 10gb ram osx 10.7

What graphics card? Any third party add-ons (PCIe cards etc)?
Remove all of them and see if it would chime.

Not sure but might be a ram problem. Try isolating to check which ram by removing and reseating the ram sticks. Happened to me once when my 3.1 Mac Pro would not boot and it was a ram problem. One stick died and after removing that stick everything was fine.
