Hello,

I need to know what are my options for an upgrade to my Graphics card.
Currently I have GeoForce GT 120 (512mb) installed.

http://www.macvidcards.com/i-want-the-best-graphics-card-for-my-mac-pro-where-do-i-start.html
The very last paragraph says, "I recommend the GTX 770 as the high end for the 3,1 Mac Pro."

I checked out the two cards on Nivida.com... Gt-120 uses Pci-e 2.0 and Gtx-770 uses Pci-e 3.0.
I am not sure Macpro 3,1 even has a pcie 3.0 slot. Does it ?

My main concern is upgrade my GPU card to (1gb/ 2gb memory). Is this possible?
If so how can I accomplish this?

Thanks you.

Yeah this card will work fine, pci-e 3.0 is backwards compatible meaning it works with pci-e 2.0 just make sure youll put it in your bottom x16 slot. But it will be ever so slightly slower in pci-e 2.0, but it wont be noticeable unless you really need high gpu bandwidth speeds. If you get a card from MacVidCards, it will come flashed meaning it will have a bootscreen and work right out of the box for mac pros. If you dont want to pay the high asking price there, you can get the same card on ebay or your local market for cheap, and flash it yourself. Youll also need the latest nvidia graphics drivers available for mac. Flashing the card yourself isn’t easy and takes some tech savvy, if im not wrong you’ll also need a windows pc to flash it.

I’ve have flashed GTX 980, and GTX 1070 cards in my 3,1. If 770 is theoretical limit, why is my 1070 several fps faster than my 980? You can run just about any modern GPU in a 3,1. At some point, there are diminishing returns, though.

What is the best card option for me.
GTX 770 ? It is 2 GB memory.

My real issue is I tried to play Frostpunk Pc game and I think it won't play because of my old GPU card.

I am not that tech savvy, so I am not sure what my options are here.

Can you guys name a few so I can look at the specs and see what GB I can use etc.
Preferably under a $100.

Thank you for response.
