MacPro 4,1 > 5,1 weird logoff issue

Hello there my fellow Mac Pro users. I have a MacPro 4,1>5,1 2X6-core xeon cpu, with 128GB ram and a gtx 980Ti running High Sierra (140.0.0.0.0 bios boot rom). It has four internal HDD and three external HDD attached vie a USB 3.0 pci-e card. Anyways, I've been having an issue where the MacPro will suddenly log me off for some reason. Then, I would have to log back on to get back into the desktop again. I'm not sure if its a software or hardware issue at this point. Anybody has any clue as to what is causing this?

You neglected to inform us which version of Mac OS you are running.

EDIT : Apologies, I didn't notice that "High Sierra" was in the OP's post. . . . hd just finished a long, hard day's work.

OP, I've only heard of this problem in context of trying to run dual GPUs in Mojave. Have you tried basic stuff like running First Aid on your boot disk?

Edit: and if possible I would try to eliminate some variables. Can you run for a while without the external drives plugged in (even better, without the USB 3 card installed) to see if the problem still occurs? That's the first thing I would try.

^^ I've ran CleanMyMac couple times. I do have a GTX120 card plugged in too but is not connected to a second monitor. It's there in case I need to move to Mojave. I shall try unplugging the external drives this weekend to see if it makes any difference.

No need, I believe you've got the same issue I mentioned in my first reply. Pull out the GT120 and I bet your problem goes away.

I think Apple made some change to the NVIDIA driver in recent releases of macOS that causes this behavior. I think it just comes up with Mojave more because people wanted to keep the GT120 for boot screens, but probably affects (some or even all releases of) High Sierra too.

So I'd say hold onto the GT120 for potential future troubleshooting, but do not leave it installed in your chassis. That should solve the logoff issue. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the suggestion. I shall take the gtx120 out and keep an eye on it to see if the symptom happen again...

I took the gx120 out and looks like the auto logoff is no more...in case anyone else has same issue.
