MacPro 5,1 12 core (BRAND NEW)

I've just found this machine for sale. The model number is Md771bz/a and they are still charging full price. I should buy a SSD and a new GPU (GTX 780) to make it more up to date, so it's gonna cost a little more.

Should i go with this one or stick with the new MacPros that will be arriving? Referring to this new one, i intend to go with the base U$4.000,00 version (6 core and d500).

My main worry is future-proofing, since i intend to stay a long time with this computer and, if possible, upgrade my GPU when i feel necessary.

It depends on what tasks will you be doing with the Mac Pro or if you will use this for your business or work. The new Mac Pro is for a specific niche market like video editing and will you be needing 2 GPUs for your tasks. For the classic tower Mac Pro, maybe an 8 core may be adequate that you would not need to spend that much. The classic tower may be the right choice since you prefer having user upgradable on the GPU and internal storage. Another route is get a 4.1 Mac Pro and upgrade the cpus to either a hex core 3.33ghz

It also depends on accessibility. We have a 5.1 Hex too, but as nice as the new one looks, we'd have to max it out and then hope that it could cope down the line.

At least with the tower we can swap drives, add cards and drives with the removal of a couple of clips.

I like the look of the new one, but buy one? Frankly, no.

Next step for our's is a new graphics board....Pre-flashed 3GB etc. I don't want to get TX screwdrivers out to get into a machine. So I guess the answer is yes.

We use scrumpymacs a lot, but they are UK based...they operate pretty much the same way Apple do, and offer the same warranty options etc. I'm not sure if they ship but it might be worth asking..they are a lot cheaper than the 5.1 you are looking at.:
