MacPro 5,1 24" display options?...

Hi, I've used the search function on here, but not really found the info I'm looking for.

I have a 5,1 running 3.33 12 cores, with a GTX680 (2mb) graphics card. I have been using an NEC PA241W, and NEC 2490WUXi2 displays for some time now, and even with the new Spyder calibration, can't get the two screens to display colours in any way accurately, or similarly.

What are my best options on this, bearing in mind I have DVi connections on the graphics card? I have been looking at the older 24" Apple LED cinema displays, but am looking for something that will display colours with some decent degree of accuracy. I'm into DTP, so doesn't have to be the very best. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?...

Obviously their spec are too far away. Especially the 2490WUXi2 has no way to display accurate colour, no matter how good Spyder is.

Also, may I know is your Spyder is new? From memory, the colour sensor inside the Spyder only good for something like max 3 years. After that, it's not accurate anymore.

There should be plenty of new 24" display out there are much better then the old Cinema Display. May be search "best display 2018 24" in google can help.

Thank you for the reply. Seems that the Dell U2415H is perhaps a safe bet, having searched as you've suggested.

Thanks for that Fanboy. That looks like a really nice option! I was looking at the newer NEC PA243W on the web, but the BenQ looks like it could be just the ticket! :)
 
I got my Dell U2415 when it first came out in 2014. It's a great monitor. I'm not sure how accurate the colors are, but they seem good to me (apparently 99% sRGB). If I was going to buy a new monitor I'd get a 27" 4K. Maybe the LG 27UK850-W.

There is also the older Dell U2412M that is very popular. It uses an LG e-IPS panel (LM240WU8-SLA2). The U2415 uses the newer AH-IPS LG panel (LM240WUA-SSA1). I'm not sure what all the pros and cons are between the different panels. According to this site the panel for the U2412M is no longer in production so I don't think I would buy one of those.

It looks like the U2415 can display 16.78 million colors (8-bit). The panel in the LG 27UK850-W can display 1.07 billion colors (10-bit) (probably model LM270WR3-SSA1 or LM270WR3-SSA3).

I have a pair of Dell U2417(?) models. Work well, color accuracy is pretty good, though can be bettered (though probably not for the price).
 
It looks like the U2417H has a Samsung PLS panel (model LTM238HL04) and appears to be comparable to the LG IPS panels. Of course the major difference is that's it's 16:9 rather than 16:10 like the U2415. A 24" 16:10 feels bigger because it's nearly the height of a 27" 16:9.
 
Have you done a search on youtube, you can get some really good comparison reviews between models.
As you say, if you watch yt reviews of 24/27 comparison, they are virtually same height.
I have two u2412m (which are matte), not sure about color accuracy though.
You can't beat a matching pair of displays :)
 
Thanks for the replies Gents, have been looking at my options. Needless to say, it's a minefield out there ;) Anyway, sidestepping slightly I'm wondering if I would be better running a pair of 4K 27" screens, but am wondering if this would result in the graphics card working it's guts out, resulting in excessive fan noise, etc?... Maybe it doesn't work like that, I don't know...

If you are pushing your graphics card, as well as extra fan noise you might get jerky play back etc.
