Does the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 support 2560 x 1440 via a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable?
Today I’m using the Dual Link DVI, but I want to change to DisplayPort to be able to use the ATEN CS782DP KVM Switch.
https://www.aten.com/global/en/products/kvm/desktop-kvm-switches/cs782dp/
(I’m going to use a just one display.)

Thanks,
Håkan
It's a 2009 GPU, anything over 1920x1200 require an active adapter, like the one Apple sell to be used with 30" Cinema display. It's probably cheaper to replace the GPU.

If I understand correctly he wants to use GT120 DP to Monitor DP via a DP kvm switch.
Should work
That’s right. Got the advice over at Apple Communities that it should work straight from the card (Mini DP) to a monitor without a DP KVM switch, too.

My experience is that you might need to clean the display port plug of the GT120 a bit by plug - replug the mdp cable a few times while "vibrating" it a bit. After 10 years they are often oxidationed.

Lol, do not find a better english word for it.

Thanks again! I’ve never used the mdp port on the GT120, so that might be some good advice.
What’s your opinion, why would it work (2560 x 1440) via a KVM switch but maybe not straight from the card?

Yes, it can work with the 27" Apple Cinema Display which is exactly 2560x1440. In fact, if can go even higher than that.

I have a 512 MB version (NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB).
Also, what is that OpenGL Engine application in your screen shot?

VRAM capacity won't change the supported resolution.

Ok, thank you h9826790!
Where there different versions of the GT 120 released, or have you upgraded your card?
In what scenarios would you need the larger VRAM?

Does your GT120 shows boot screen, h9826790?
If it does, I'd greatly appreciate if you could share its BIOS.
I would like to try flashing a GT9500 PC VGA to see if it works for boot screen on my cMP1,1.
Thanks in advance.
You are forgetting that macEFI cards that are made for EFI64 Mac Pros (MP3,1>) are incompatible with EFI32 Mac Pros (MP1,1 and MP2,1) and vice-versa.

No card that have pre-boot configuration support with a MP3,1/MP4,1/MP5,1 will have it with a MP1,1/MP2,1

From what you said, I imply to my situation that "If my 7300GT roll-over-and-die, I would lose pre-boot configuration support on my MP1,1?"
This is scary to me...
If that is true, then I would have to prepare from now on. I don't want to be stuck with a dark black screen and not knowing what to do.

What I need to say more than EFI64 cards don't work with EFI32 Mac Pros for pre-boot configuration support/boot screen? ;)

Last AppleOEM card that have EFI32 is a variation of 8800GT for MP1,1 and MP2,1, that was offered specifically by Apple back in the day to upgrade older Mac Pros 1,1/2,1. The 8800GT for MP1,1 and MP2,1 has a different part number, btw.

Shouldn't be too difficult to find the firmware for this card and flash to a PC version or to the AppleOEM EFI64 one that is very common - but I can't help you with that since I do not own a EFI32 Mac Pro for a decade.

Thank you.
I just need to know what'll work, and what won't, so I can hunt for a flashable PC card in the junk shops around here.
For 8800GT, I can get the EFI32 rom from Dosdude1.

Can't help you more than what I wrote, it's has been more than ten years that I last looked at this. Shouldn't be too difficult to search and find relevant info.

Btw, Dell sold a 8800GT card that was practically identical of the Apple one that works with Apple firmwares, should be ""easy"" to find it used.

Maybe you could find a ROM for this one/ find a Mac version:

ATI Radeon HD 4870 1 Gb
Performance: 48% RPI. Significantly faster than Nvidia Geforce 8800GT in high resolution.Power consumption: 2 x 6 pins.Outs: two DL-DVI.Compatibility: DirectX 10.1, OpenGL 3.3. macOS 10.5.7 - 10.11.x.Other: 32 bit EFI only, occupies 2 slots. There is 4890 version with higher frequencies. There is "mac edition" of cards.Unflashed (PC version): doesn't work; can be flashed.

For now, I just wrap up the old 7300GT and store it in some safe place, together with an HDD with 10.7.5 installed.
Daily use is El Capitan, with either GTX680 or HD6670.
I think I still can use it for a while.

For Mac Pro 1.1 Efi 32 Bootscreen support one can use a card with Hybrid Efi 32/64 rom like

Apple HD2600, 4770, 5770, 5870

All those Apple OEM cards give Bootscreens from 1.1 to 5.1
