Hi, I have got a nice MacPro, but I can not figure out how to install the operating system on it? I do not have much sense on Mac.

When I try recovery mode, this logo will appear, and then no more?

Does anyone know what I can do?

You have to download El Capitan.

This is a 2008 Mac Pro (MP3,1) and don't support Internet Recovery. Download El Capitan with a supported Mac, create a usb-key with createinstallmedia then boot your Mac Pro from it.

10.11.6 is the most recent officially supported macOS version with a 2008 Mac Pro.

Any theories why the internet recovery image / icon shows up on a machine that doesn’t have the ability to do it?

Also to the OP if you were thinking about it you could do Mojave as well on this unit but there are some pain points (need a metal compatible GPU installed as the only GPU like a GTX 680 Mac or EFI flashed Kepler version of a 600 series card or non efi flashed if you don’t care to have boot screens, and there are some more hoops to jump through vs remaining on 10.13.6)

internet recovery image may just be a relic of "why bother to not show it for an old computer" as it's extra work for such a old computer for apple

they shiped with osx10.6? and i dont think internet rediscovery will let you download such an old system as well ?

just a gess tho

08 came with 10.5.2 (at least mine did)
Also not sure if you can download anything older than lion if you can even get that.
