Hi, I currently own a MacPro (1,1) that has a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in it as of right now, and I was planning to upgrade to a better one, but I'm having trouble finding some that are compatible. I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on which video cards could be replaced with mine?

I wanted to upgrade it to play Starcraft, and when I try to play, it tells me that my video card is not supported.. (http://i56.tinypic.com/23hrczm.png)

I'm willing to spend $200 at max.

I believe Apple sells the 5770 or 5870 as an upgrade for your model, although I don't remember which they advertize for the original Pro. Either way, it will be a rather large performance jump.

With my Mac Pro 1.1 updated with Intel X5355 quad Core processors, run ATI Radeon HD4870 graphic card, which is a 1GB flashed PC card. Purchased through eBay from a Hong Kong dealer local338. Have bought lot of gear from them with no problems.

Will the power supply of the 1,1 have enough wattage for the HD 5770?? That's the one I was looking at.

for the 5770 you are spending twice as much for half the performance but with the MP 1,1 you are limited to what you can upgrade it with.

goodluck on your starcraft endeavor.

One thing to remember about your 200 budget is that you can recover at least 50 bucks, more likely 75-100 from your 7300 on eBay.

The 5770 will perform spectacularly with Starcraft 2, I'm playing at 1920x1080 on Ultra with everything and never notice any slowdown. It's a fine card, and works great with the 1,1. I don't mind fiddling around with things, my next upgrade is a processor swap, but having played with flashed cards in the past I decided it wasn't worth my time this time around with 2 kids and a busy job. Your experience may be different.
