MacPro Early 2008, GTX680 2GB, 10.9.5 - Can I get 3440x1440 over HDMI?

Hi,

I have both a gaming PC (DisplayPort) and my MacPro (DVI) hooked up into a 27" Dell 2560x1440 display and it all works fine.

I am looking to buy a new G-Sync 3440x1440 monitor, specifically this one:

I would still like to be able to plug in both my PC (over DisplayPort) and MacPro (over HDMI). The spec sheet of my PNY GTX680 2GB states that the HDMI is 1.4a. Will the Macpro work over HDMI and if so, at what frequency? 30hz, 50hz, 60hz?

I have a EVGA GTX 680 2 gig card that I flashed in my 2009 mac pro. it is also hooked to my Seiki 4k TV as well as the cinema display it provides 4k at 30 cps I hope that helps.

I've since hooked it up to a 3440 x 1440 screen and it works a treat at 60hz, which is great!

I have the Seiki SE39UY04 which I just hooked up to my Mac Pro with Radeon HD 8970 3GB. Runs fine at 4K resolution. Although the Seiki is supposed to be 120hz it does 4K ant 30hz. I had the TV and the card for months before I had a chance to set things up. Since everything is working fine "out of box" I'm guessing the vendor (or Seiki) flashed the TV with latest fiirmware but I'm checking around. Did you upgrade firmware on yours?

Older thread I know, but I'm curious if you can confirm that you have the GTX 680 hooked up via the HDMI port to the Asus PG348Q? Per Asus' specs, the HDMI port maxes out @50Hz, which is what I get if I plug my PC (GTX 1070) into the PG348Q via HDMI.

50Hz is fine, but I just want to confirm that a GTX 680 will drive the PG348Q at 3440x1440 over HDMI. I'm considering buying a GTX 680, and I would like to make sure it will work before I do.

Ok, so I don't have a GTX 680 (yet), but I can follow up on something else that may be of interest to anyone who has a PG348Q and a Mac Pro with an HD 5770...

I picked up one of these Kanex miniDP to HDMI adapters (model KIADAPT4KW), and it runs the Asus P348Q at 3440x1440 50Hz over HDMI from one of the HD 5770's miniDP ports. Of course, it doesn't feel as silky smooth as the 100Hz I get from running this screen off of the GTX 1070 in my PC, but it's usable.

OK, last reply to my own posts in this thread, but I can confirm that a GTX 680 will push the Asus PG348Q at the native 3440x1440 @50Hz over HDMI. No adapters required, and it definitely feels more responsive than the Radeon HD 5770.

I had a hard time finding any info on this myself, so hopefully someone finds this useful.
