Hey guys! Just looking for some expert knowledge on an HDD upgrade issue I am foreseeing.

Basically, my set-up includes - among other things - an SSD for my OS and (because the SSD is only 64gb - nothing like the space I require) a 1TB "HOME" drive, which is where the OS on the SSD understands the Home folder (Documents, Music, Photo's etc.) is located.

I'm fast running out of space on this drive, and am looking to upgrade to a 2TB HDD (though I haven't decided which yet so some supplemental advice on which are the best 2TB internal HDDs around would be appreciated!). My question is, how do I swap the old drive out and transfer the contents to the new one, while maintaining all the links and associations that the OS and my Apps etc. have with the files/folders on the old drive?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

on sale with a code for 79 ssd is in slot 1 old 1tb in slot 2 new 2tb samsung in slot 3

use super duper to clone the 1tb to the 2tb pull the 1 tb out of the machine put the 2tb in slot that held the 1tb. close it up and it should work

Thanks dude!

Would CarbonCopyCloner work all the same for this?

I've got both of the other bays occupied unfortunately, so looks like I'll have to use the spare SATA provided by my lack of a second DVD drive. That would work right?

Is there a way of finding out which bay each of the internal drives is in? I don't think I can remember from back when I put them in...

In the System-Profiler look at the Serial-ATA tab, the entries are from top down:

1. upper optical bay
2. lower optical bay
3. drive bay 1 (left most)
4. drive bay 2
5. drive bay 3
6. drive bay 4
