Hello,

I've had my MacPro for more than little over a year now and its been running fine with no problems at all. But recently my Internal Harddrive keeps ejecting itself either randomly or upon awakening. Its not my main Macintosh HD that ejects, its another internal I installed.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and how I could resolve it?

Thanks,
Ollie

MacPro Spec:
2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
10GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Version 10.7.2 (Lion)

Hard Drive Spec:
Samsung HD103SI Media
SATA
1TB

Okay, so here is a SMART Utility Status:

Also tried it in a different slot and it hasn't ejected so far... only time will tell, seems to be random

First off, is the drive actually OK?

Download a SMART app and post the screenshot of it (SMART Utility).

I can only think it's a buggered HD or a dodgy connection. Try it in another slot.

I've had similar experiences. I don't know how or why it happens though. However, I can still see the hard drive in disk utility and am able to mount it again through there. Perhaps a dodgy connection somewhere, but I've never seen it unmount on me, and even if it did, wouldn't it give me the eject warning as if you pulled a USB or external hard drive without properly ejecting it?

Anyway, thankfully the hard drive isn't harmed and everything still reads and writes fine.

could be related to drive sleep settings. try disabling the 'put drives to sleep when possible' setting in the Energy Saver syspref.

SMART results can be treacherous, as the can't evaluate flakey mechanics/connectors properly. If the harddrive is older, i would backup the content and keep an eye on it - perhaps even upgrade to a newer drive. It also may help to clean the SATA contacts inside the MP with pressured air (make sure the machine is shut down and cooled off and wait some time after cleaning to make sure the components don't get damaged from condensed water and/or too massive temperature changes).

I too had this problem. I found a solution in this youtube video. Please check it out. It might solve your issue.

After following steps in this video , the random eject issue of 2nd HDD was solved on my Macbook Pro
