doesn anyone know of a program that can test each core individually so that i know each core is working well?

also, am i seeing this right? you can't plug a mic into this thing without buying a usb mic?

p.s. can anyone recommend a good keyboard mapper program?

Well I can help with the 2nd and 3rd questions at least.

As long as the audio input source is powered, you should be fine. You'll have to use Audio MIDI setup to enable the sound to playthrough. If it's greyed out, you can just use LineIn: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/

Are you trying to re-map the command, option, control and/or caps lock keys? You can do that from System Prefrences, just click on Keyboard & Mouse, then click the Modifier Keys button.
