All,

I started having a really strange issue. As of a couple days ago, I will boot my MacPro up and during the boot process it just turns its self off, then back on, then off, etc.

When it turns its self off, all I have to do is bump or move the computer and it will turn its self back on (but then off again a short time later).

I am thinking it has to be a loose cable someplace, but I cannot see where. I've taken the hard drives, memory riser cards and video card out and reseated them all.

I've been on the phone with Applecare and they were absolutely useless. They kept wanting me to take the fans out and push buttons that were on the motherboard.

When I was able to get the computer to boot (after I laid it on its side) the guy said it was fixed and closed my call out!!

Does anyone have any ideas? Very frustrated.

Do you still experimence the problem after the fix? I have a similiar problem with my Mac Pro. It restart by itself then it turn itself off. Reset PMU make make it boot up again but several days later it does it again. I take it in to the Apple Store and they offer to replace the Logic Board and the Power Supply. Seam that didn't help so they swap me another one. Your is a little different from mine but look like you may have a faulty circuit board or a power problem that need replace.

Get it sent in warranty. Don't mess around.

There's almost certainly a broken connection in there somewhere, since it responds to impact and change in position. It's not your responsibility to ferret out where the fault is... but if you leave it be, then you are going to lose data when it goes next time.

Back up your data and call Apple and tell them to arrange shipping/return of the machine.

Ugh.. Do you happen to know the turn around time on getting these things repaired? Or alternatively, can I take it to an authorized apple repair center and have it repaired under warranty there?

Depend on the parts that need to replace. But be ready to spend atleast 3 - 4 weeks without it if a part is need to be replace. Since Apple don't usually stock the parts around. I have to wait that long for them to finally have the parts in hand, and even worse turn out it doesn't remedy the problem. If you didn't bought it too long, you should take it to the Apple Store and ask them to replace the entire unit for you is faster and safer in the long run. I should've done this with mine back then. The problem is you will have a hard time proving to them that is DOA since you said sometime it does it and sometime it does not. When I take mine there it was totally DOA.

Wish I had an Apple store here. :( I bought mine at CompUSA back in late August, so I think it's far too late to return it.

They still service your Mac Pro even though you bought it from another store rather then Apple. I think you have to call Apple Care and convince them the problem since it still under Warranty.
