Hello:

I inherited a Macpro2,1 without a hard drive. I installed one hard drive but I'm not able to boot from a bootable mac OS 10.7 DVD.

This is what I see while the DVD is loading, a stripped background behind the Apple logo:

After a while the Macpro gets stuck in this screen:

If I boot the mac without a DVD, a file symbol with a question mark appears, pretty much what I'd expect considering the fact that the hard drive is empty but the stripes in the background are weird.

For the record: I'm hable to hear the start up chime.

Any help on what can be failing? I've tried to run Apple Hardware Test but I can't get it to run.

It stucks when loading the drivers for it.

You can try safe boot by press and hold the shift key during cold boot.
 
You should get a video card, or, if you have another mac you can install a system in firewire target mode. But I doubt it will run with your broken GT7300 ? You may bake the GPU to give it a few hours...
