Hello Macrumors community,
I would like to share with you my dilemma...
I have been trying to solve this issue since two months. Everytime an app or game needs graphic hardware, the Mac Pro freezes and the screen becomes greenish/purplish with dots appearing and disappearing all over it.
I think is a graphic temperature issue. I opened the graphic card cover and remove all the dust and ***** accumulated for 3 years.
I know the graphic card is alive because I am using it now to write this post. But I realized that the fan doesn't speed up when the graphic card needs to... I know it should work because when I switch on the Mac, the fan speeds up in the fan test (some secs before booting)...
When playing Portal or any Steam game..in about 30-40 secs my Mac freezes.
When playing a Youtube video (Flash uses graphic hardware) in fullscreen...in some minutes my Mac freezes.
When I enter to Time Machine (OpenGL in the background) my Mac freezes in seconds.
I tried to solve this problem but nothing worked.
What should I do? Should I buy another graphic card? Replace the fan? Change the graphic cooling system? Wait for that rumored Mac Pro 2011 and its graphic cards?
Thank you
