hey the other day I was wondering what the new "ultra portable" MacBooks will actually be called (?) and I thought of the name...

MacroBook

it would convey its tiny size and would work really well with the other two laptop names because it sounds like "MacBook Pro" muddled round a bit! lol

MacBook Pro
MacBook
MacroBook

who else thinks this would be really awesome?!
or does anyone have their own name ideas/suggestions..?

:)

EDIT: aah I was thinking of the word macro in terms of photography. I guess I haven't really heard it used to refer to "large-scale". in that case I'd change it to MicroBook. I agree that MacBook Mini or MiniBook etc seems likely but what do you think of the likelihood of MacBook Nano to keep the name consistent with iPod..?

I don't like it. The play on words to include 'Mac' is kinda lame.
Macbook Mini seems appropriate. Or MiniBook Pro for that matter would both be much better in my opinion.

EDIT: Not to mention 'Macro' gives reference to large, MicroBook would be more appropriate even.

Ya, but macro means big, micro means small.

Edit: As someone has already mentioned.

I don't like the name. First of all, it wouldn't be in keep with Apple. I'm sure you have noticed that Apple likes to keep products in a line (i.e. PowerBook-Power Mac, and then MacBook Pro-Mac Pro)

Plus, Macro means big. The ultraportable is small. And if it was called MacroBook, there would be no Mac or "i" reference. I don't think Apple would like that.

I too am thinking MacBook Mini or even MacBook Nano.

yeah I've since edited my original post, I was thinking about macro in terms of photography, didn't actually know it meant "large-scale" lol

I agree, they'll obviously want a name that compliments the other two in the line, so you can probably guarantee it will have "book" in its name and then probably "mac" as well with one other word to distinguish it.

since they discarded "mini" for "nano" with the iPod they might do the same and keep it consistent, plus they don't want people to get confused with the mac mini, so I'd probably say MacBook Nano.

one more thing: is there any way I can delete the poll? lol

or change it to "what name would you prefer - MacBook Nano, MacBook Mini or MicroBook?"

Report your own post and ask a mod to do it.

Now, as for your idea, I'll have to say that "macroboook" doesn't do it for me.

Personally, I think that if the new notebook is simply a smaller mbp, it'll just be called that. If it's something amazingly new, MacNano might work.

Apple wants the "Mac" branding in their product names, so it wouldn't be called a MicroBook.

I'm still skeptical on this "new" notebook myself, but we'll see what happens next month...
