Macromedia: Are these good prices?

Sorry to dupe this question, but I placed it in the wrong forum a few minutes ago.

The university I work at recently acquired Macromedia software to sell at an education discount for faculty and staff. I want to start dabbling in some of these titles, especially, Dreamweaver. Are these prices pretty fair? Has anyone had bad experience with education discounts?

seems ok, due to the fact i'm seeing Studio 8 on the Macromedia UK Edu store for £75, around US$150.

if it's your school/college/uni offering the stuff, it can't really go wrong.

I see on Amazon that Dreamweaver 8 is selling for $379.99. In comparison to that, $39.99 sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I've used software discounts from the university before: MS XP (free), Office 2004 (Mac and Win - free), etc and never had any problems. They seem to hook up up pretty well.

Yes and thats to buy the disc version. Faculty, staff and students can download Office versions for free for both PC and Mac, as well as Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition and a few other titles.

That is a good deal, I know Macromedia EDU here has Dreamweaver for $99 and the Studio Pro for $249, So the prices are good.

A fewthings to know of course:
Macromedia says the the instant that an Education version of DW, Flash, etc is used to produce commercial work, then you owe them the difference between the Ed price and the retail price.
If you leave the Uni., you have to erase the software
The software cannot be sold or given to anybody outside the site license group (employees and students)

That IS good to know..a little disappointing though. While the bulk of what I would do with DW is tweak my personal site and learn the interface, I had hopes of using it for the website for my parents' company, which is a commercial enterprise. That might put a damper on things.

Those are great prices. Studio 8 goes for $289 here at my school. Does your school sell outside to other students? I know at some of the other schools around here you can buy as long as you provide an id showing your college status. My university tossed aside a great deal presented by an Adobe rep. The deal would have lowered overall pricing for all here on campus but the university said no and requires the individual colleges to buy their own licenses.

As for the licensing, the comments stated above about the restrictions are true. However, Macromedia, Adobe also, allow you to buy the normal non edu licensed upgrades which not only upgrade your software but also upgrade your license to a pro license. Most of my software was originally purchased through edu pricing and is now pro licensed due to upgrades.

These have to be purchased onsite, and they check the university's system to verify you're an employee. If I'm wrong, I'll indicate so on this thread next week when I go in to purchase the titles.
