Hi,

this may be a really dumb question, but i'm about to re-configure my office and i may need/want to put my macs (G4 and G5 towers) on my desk.

So, is it a dumb idea b/c of electronic waves or some crazy stuff which can give me cancer down the road? I know this sounds dumb, but i'm serious. i spend alot of time working so i'd be having a g5, g4 and a peecee within close proximity to me.

cheers,
Keebler

Never heard that before, and don't see a reason that would make this true. I've done it with many computers.

Then again everything seems to give/prevent cancer...

The FCC requires that computers have fairly heavy sheilding. You don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of deadly EM waves are given off by computers. If you want something fun stick a smoke detector on your cheek for a few years. You might feel something. (It's a joke, please don't try it. I don't think Americium is fun.)

I suggest keeping them on the floor, at your feet, as close as possible to your testicles.

to be expected :)

Yeah, but you're from the great white north, FCC regulations don't extend up there. ;)

True. We have the CSA which is probably like the FCC and given our ultra conservative ways, it's probably more strict (and heck, the govt probably looks at it as another way to add another tax to our lifestyle ;) lol

Back when I had a windows desktop, I liked to keep it on the desk for a few reasons...

A) It keeps the dust and crap out of the air vents.

B) If you have a lot of cables that you change often (in the back) it can be easier to change them as opposed to crawling on the floor.

C) There is no reason C. mostly reason A.

Even the Apple stores keep their powermacs on the tables right next to the 30" ACD's and speakers and everything else. Go ahead and do it, there won't be any problems.
