Has anyone else had bad experience with MacVidCards?

I sent in a 5700XT card to be flashed in June. I have tried to reach out to him via email and phone to see what the status is and have not heard anything back.

Is there anyone else here that has had similar problems of not getting back their Video Cards?

Yes, his customer service skills are non-existent.

I bought a card from him, it didn't last long and came basically packed in garbage. It had a dual bios switch and the wrong one was selected so I didn't even think it worked at first. No instructions or notes or anything.

I have bought cards from other people using his firmware that came in basically new looking condition, with the original packaging and power cables needed for the mac pro.

I purchase cards from other sellers and had no issues with communication and receiving the card.

I sent a card to be flashed and received nothing back. His site needs to be shut down. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, next will be the California District Attorney and any other entities that deal with Internet scams.

^^^^Posters on this site seem to have mixed results. I have bought a number of cards from MVC and have never had an issue.

Lou
Some have had good experience and others such as myself have had bad experience.

1. I have sent emails and have verified that he has read them and not responded.
2. I have left voicemails and he has not responded.

Good for you that you have had no issues, I have and so have other people. The only difference is that you purchase cards and I sent in one to be flashed.
Your post is from from February 2020.
I sent my card July 2021 for flashing. it is not Sept 2021.

So if you have a good relationship with him. Reach out to David Pirinelli and ask him what’s up with them cards?

^^^^Please don't be defensive? And, no I did not buy cards from him. I bought the GPUs myself and had them drop shipped to him. Over the years it was four cards. Both, Nvidia and later AMD. In my post I said the post results on this forum were mixed and personally I had no issue with the service he provided. I'm sorry he did not treat you well.

I no longer require his service, because my Gigabyte RX6800XT in my NcMP provides a boot screen?

I ordered two cards from MacVidCards Europe and everything went perfectly fine.
Evidently MVC US and MVC Europe are two completely different persons/companies.

I've ordered multiple cards/flash services from MVC Europe in the past and can only say : excellent communication, very fast shipping and cards in perfect conditions.

On the other hand I've seen so many negative reports in the last few years about MVC US :
No card ever shipped, extremely long time for shipping , physically damaged cards , missing screws, shipping a different card than the card sent in for flashing etc etc.

The worst part seems to be the complete absence of communication whatsoever.
One person got finally in contact after waiting for months , made an appointment to meet, drove a few hours and Dave never showed up.

Just some facts....

I had a bad experience several years ago -- maybe 2014. I bought a card, it lasted just beyond his warranty, then died. Was it 90 days? I've repressed it.

I asked what might be done and the very very slow answer was "too bad."

So both companies are not connected at all? I didn't know that.

Well it might also be informative to others that there are people out there who don’t share your experience.
This is a public forum after all.

I ordered two cards from MacVidCards Europe and everything went perfectly fine.

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience and hope you’ll receive your flashed card soon.
Correct this is a public forum, but this is my post asking if anyone has had a bad experience with Macvidcards. The title is Macvidcards Los Angelas. Not MacVidCards Europe.

Does MVC/Europe ship to the US? I'm willing to pay more for a better experience.

The way I understand it is they do all the research and creating the flashers, MVC/US is just the US franchise who basically does the flashing in his free time to earn a little side cash when he needs it, and if he's not strapped for cash basically ignores his customers.

All these places are lame. Bottom of the barrel operations. Same with these places that will buy used macs. Just think about it. No way they can operate without cutting corners at the consumers expense. The profit margins are razer thin at the retail level already.

I have gone through two orders with MacVidCards in the USA and my experience was mixed. The first order was great, but then for the second order, I shipped a card to them and it just disappeared for weeks with no word. Eventually I got an email response and the person answering the mail (who was not the business owner, but who did not identify himself by name) told me that he was away on vacation and he seemed surprised no one had been assigned to check the mailbox in his absence.

I eventually got the card I needed after 2 months and all was well. I would strongly hesitate to order from them again, but I also don't anticipate a future need; my 2010 Mac Pro has just about outlived its usefulness here.

Based on the numerous reports on this forum and elsewhere, I wouldn't label him a scammer, but he definitely has major problems with business process and customer service.

Also, just a general reminder to always be kind to forum posters who are trying to help.

I know this is not going to make the OP happy, but I feel both sides of the story need to be heard. I bought a Nvidia GTX 980 from him in June and my experience was great. Not only was the card clean and defect free, I actually received a GTX 980 Ti instead. The card was packaged well and came with the power cables I would have needed for installation in my 2012 Mac Pro (why I say "would have needed" is I ended up doing the Pixla's mod which uses a different power cable).

I'm sorry your experience hasn't been good and I hope you get your card back in working order.

I sent a card to be 5700xt to flashed in June. It is September. He has not communicated via phone or email and I know he opened his email. There are programs that will notify you that an email has been open and yet he does not respond. So he had an opportunity and he choose not to communicate on what’s going on.

You sell refurbished Mac Pros on eBay and I would assume that you are transparent with your buyers and potential buyers, and you follow the eBay policies for sales and returns.

Then you would know what it takes to have a successful online business. Customer service, Fast shipping, well stock inventory and communication to name a few.

David Gary Pirinelli of macvidcards.com does not care to provide any of the above poor/none existing customer service, fast shipping??, well stock inventory?? and most important communication.

Did he follow the 30-Day Rule for Shipping Goods as per the FTC below?
If the business is unable to ship within the promised time or within 30 days, the merchant must promptly tell the customer by mail, telephone or email, and give a new shipping estimate and give the customer a chance to cancel their order and receive a full refund.
The answer to that would be a NO.
As per his web site MacVidCards.Com the time allowed for flashing service was 1-2 days.
Did he communicate to me that there was going to delay in my order, the answer is no.

Now about me labeling him a scammer. Let’s define Scam/fraud

Definition of scam
a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation
one who perpetrates a scam.

Definition of Mail Fraud
The term fraud includes any scheme:
• • • To obtain money or property under false pretenses; or
• • • To sell, distribute, exchange, supply, or use counterfeits.

A person commits mail fraud when the scheme involves the mailing of something associated with the fraud. Mailing contracts, receipts, and communications regarding a fraudulent deal could all meet the law's requirements. The communications are not limited to the USPS and include mail sent through private and commercial interstate carriers.

From the above definition he is a scammer and committed mail fraud.

My question in this post “Is there anyone else here that has had similar problems of not getting back their Video Cards?”
I’m looking for other individuals that had the same or similar experiences of being scammed by David Gary Pirinelli from MacVidCards.com

I had the same bad experience but thankfully my cards or purchased cards were never in hostage. I lived in the LA area so I arranged to meet him, waited for him for 2hrs or so near his area, he never showed up nor ever replied back to my emails as he never disclosed his cell phone numbers. I also had to drive 2hrs back and forth so a total of 4hrs was wasted.

I'm glad I never dealt with him because then I realized there were countless posts/replies about him in this very forum. And just because you had a good experience doesn't mean people who had bad experiences could or should be negated/nullified. It's like saying a person constantly committing fraud or misrepresentation should be forgiven and refrained from talking bad online because he provided some decent services to a few people. That's how criminals start to eventually fraud big. All in all, I consider this guy as not a reliable merchant to deal with because it seems like he only responds to customers 'when he feels like it'.

I had purchased a GTX980 and RX580 from him, both received in good condition and functional.

Though I ordered a Sapphire RX580 and was sent an MSI 580, but it works so I decided not to throw a fit.

I’m not surprised his customer service is bad, he never responded to my emails about flashing other cards I had.

Too bad because he’s basically the only game in town for these cards.
