Has anyone purchased and installed a MacVidCards modified GTX Titan in a 2010-2012 MP? I haven't been able to get the card running due to lack of power cables and I was wondering two things:

(1) From what I've been told, I can run the card on using 2 x 6-to-6 pin PCI-E PCI-e cables and connect them to the 2 PCI-e ports on the mobo, but they must be made for a USA Mac Pro? My question: Is this true? Bare Feats was able to get the card running using the MP's internal power supply, as am I, but he can't remember the cables he used. Also, if anyone can provide links to reliable PIC-E/e cables, that would be most appreciated!!

(2) What is the total power the Titan is getting if I use 2 x 6-to-6 pin cables? I'm assuming 150W (75W + 75W from the PCI-e ports on the mobo). What about power from the PCI slot the Titan is in?

I would love to get the Titan up and running so I can provide someone that wants to buy one a little more information on how I (and others) were able to get it to work. Thanks to all replies!

The Titan will be fed up to 225W in your MP with 2x6-pin cables... 2x75W from each cable and 75W from the PCI slot.

That's what I thought!! Now all I need to do is find out where I can get HIGH QUALITY PCI-E/e 6-to-6 pin cables, then I am good to go. For the record, MacVidCards doesn't provide power cables for the Titan (as stated on his Titan eBay advertisement). I kinda understand why he does this, but when you spend that kind of money on a video card, it would be nice to have them included. Oh well....I guess I have to buy them on my own. BTW, thanks for the info Daniel!!

The two 6 pin connectors on the Mac Pro's logic board is rated to only provide up to 75W each, but can in fact provide much more. I have seen screenshots of them providing up to 110W. Whether it is safe to do so, is up to the users to decide.

I would get a third power source from internal 4-pin molex (mp2008) or sata-power with 4-pin molex adapter (mp2009+) and conenct all this way:

6-pin on card <- 6-pin from mobo

8-pin on card <- two 6-pin to 8-pin Y split <- 6-pin from mobo + 6 pin via 4-pin moles-> 6-pin conenctor

These way you can provide additional 20-30 watts (doubt that cable has much power) to titan.

But I can't say that's 100% correct way.

And this is where I think most of us got it wrong. MacVidCards mods the Titan so it CAN use the 2 x 6 pin ports on the MP mobo. You don't need an external power supply for the Titan (just ask Bare Feats). However, I do want to raise the following question: Can the GTX Titan EFFICIENTLY USE the extra power anyways?

How did you bump up the power from 75W to 110W? Was this user initiated, or done automatically via the OS?

The video card decides how much power to take. 6 pin connectors on a video card are rated to pull up to 75W. 8 pin connectors are rated to pull up to 150W.
 
Some folks feeding a legitimate Apple card with 2x6-pin cables have seen it draw unevenly between the two connectors. From memory it was around 40-50 watts from one connector and around 100-110 watts on the second.

Those SATA connectors aren't rated for more than 1.2 amps, IIRC, btw.

You may burn out your connector.

On the MacVidCards Titan eBay webpage...

System Requirements:
- This graphics card requires more power than is available from a Mac Pro. You must use an external power supply or expander chassis (not included) to power the card's 6-pin and 8-pin power ports.
- Mac Pro Model 3,1 or later (Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1 recommended)
- Mac OSX 10.8.3 or later
- CUDA drivers (downloaded from Nvidia's website)

Now that I've got the GTX Titan working, I was wondering what and where are the latest NVIDIA Web Drivers for a Mid 2010 MP that runs Mavericks 10.9?
