IDG World Expo's Greco reportedly quitting

"The Chief executive of IDG World Expo is quiting his post, in the midst of delicate negotiations to persuade Apple Computer, Inc. to attend IDG's MacWorld trade show in Boston next year, according to a published report.

In an electronic mall bulettin to subcribers, Tradeshow Week magazine reported that Greco is leaving Framingham based IDG World Expo for another position in the event managment industry, and that IDG had begun seeking a replacement.

Last year, Greco worked out a deal with Menino and city convention officials to return MacWorld to Boston in 2004, as the first tenant of the city's mew convention center, now under construction. But Apple Computer shocked the city by declaring that it would not take part in a MacWorld in Boston, and might abandon the 2003 MacWorld in New York. Since then, Greco has been in Negotiations with Apple, hoping to reverse this decsion.

It's unclear how Greco's departure would affect the future of MacWorld Boston. An Apple spokesperson said the company had not yet assessed the impact of Greco's resignation."

Apple might get frustratied.

I really thought it was a PR stunt saying 'no we don't want to go to boston' and in the end they would go but I suppose now it is not.

"Apple still says it won't attend '04 Macworld Boston"

The departure of Greco, who apparently angered Apple by moving the show from NY to Boston in '04.

Apple, "will not be participating in Macworld Boston," the company said in a statement.

Negotiations are tense between Framingham based IDG & Apple.

Apple add. "Since IDG is no longer investing in New York, we now need to reevaluste ourt participation in Macworld New York 2003."

"The IDG representative also downplayed Apple's plan to skip Macworld Boston, saying, 'Apple as a company, tends to make their plans from show to show. There's still plenty of time to negotiate."

Per IDG spokesman negotiations continue.
