If Apple agreed, then it's OK.
(although I prefer to be different, and don't want to share MAC OSX experience with all those who decided to buy a pc instead of the recommended Mac:p )

I've said it many times now...

"imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"...

and besides...I'm sure Apple is up to speed on what's going on with things...they aren't oblivious...

I suppose we should wait and see if it gets pulled or not... ;)
 
Hey, if Mac sites get routinely routed by Apple for simply posting shots of Finder beta versions.. I can't imagine Apple approves of Finder simulations on XP! I've written to Apple too. This is pretty low. The Borg tries to have everything..
 
But think about all the PC folks who'll get exposed to Mac-ness by using this. It could be a very sneaky form of gaining converts. Someone starts thinking that MacXP is pretty damn cool, maybe I should get a Mac....

But unless Apple condones this, there might be some repercussions;)
 
The only use I can see for OSX themes on XP etc etc. is for urgent medical relief to mac users who have to use PC's for their day to day work..... :p

Failing that..... the fist of the mighty Apple will crush them too!!:p
 
really, if someone wants to actually make their gui look good, let them! XP looks too much like a fisher price product, so why not have a skin to spruce it up a little? If i had a pc with windows XP (hell freezes over....), i'd probably want something like this. I hope it stays online.
 
It would be one thing if you actually did it yourself (make a skin for XP out of OS X elements.) It would still be illegal, but at least only you would know about it. But for someone to distribute it online is a blatant violation of Apple's copyrights. Cool or not, we should be supporting Apple legally, not allowing peecee users to benefit from Apple's eye candy without buying anything from them.
 
Ditto.

I'll second that, Hemingray. If these peecee guys want Aqua, make 'em buy Apple. These skins are a dreadful misrepresentation of the OS X interface and should be banned on the spot. If my neighbor were driving around in a Kia-manufactured beemer-clone, I'd key his car too.
 
I love it, this stuff will tide me over on my sony laptop until apple releases the new powerbook. I must say maxp has done a great job!
 
i think there is another thread on this, but i'll say it again. Apple stop these piraters!!! :mad: :mad:

Apple obviously knows about this and i'm sure they will promptly put a stop to it.
 
I do think it is a rip off.

But hey let them have it. Their chosen platform can not give them what apple can so they make a copy of it. They are well aware that they are having to copy apple to get a decent looking interface.

Every day they will be reminded that they are second best in the OS. Not a feeling of pride when you walk up to your computer..

bunch of friends come over...

PC user, "hey look at my computer",

friend, " It looks like a mac"

PC user "I know, I downloaded this stuff and changed the look"

friend, "but its not a mac, why didn't you buy a mac?"

PC user, "I don't like macs!!!!"

friend leaves very confused.

Apple will do what apple will do....but I say let them have it as long as they don't try to profit off of apple's design.

Then again...I won't shed a tear to see then "crushed like bugs"

I think we have done almost the same thing, by adopting Windows through Virtual PC.

Just Let them use it to see what they 're missing!

First off, welcome on your first post. Secondly, no this is not an accurate comparison. Virtual PC runs windows on a Mac, SoftMac runs MacOS on a Wintel box.

The difference is, that kind of crossover is legal.

I know this subject is very divided, but i for one am glad Apple shut them down--

Are any of you closed-minded clones who've written your knee-jerk letters to Apple running OS X? Do you respect the freedom of information? I can't think you do if you're participating in this kind of bullery. What nerve to benefit from the openness of Unix when you're doing your best to limit the options of others. Shame on you. Go back to 9 you big jerks.

You don't like the software? ...don't download it. It's that simple. Spare me your mock concern for Apple. Please. This type of fingerpointing usually says little about the pointee but much about the pointer. Save your pontification for your conservative talk-radio, the PTA, or wherever else this type of narrow thinking is welcome, because it doesn't belong in this community.
