Hi Guys,

Has anyone figured out yet how to run either of these without the DVD in the drive all the time? I tried to make an image file and leave it on my desktop and open it before playing, but that did not work.

Any ideas?

Do you have Roxio Toast? Try making a disk image using that.

I might have the answer!

I posted a similar question to this regarding civ III and got a million answers accusing me of being a pirate  My solution was the most simple. Let the game start, begin playing, press pause and eject the cd. Then save to make sure everything is going without a hitch and continue your game. With CIV the only problem I've had was with saving, with madden i have a feeling that you may be able to save but not play.

Try it anyway. Post back with results.

Thanks, I'll see about giving that a try and let you know if it works.

I know what you mean on the pirate thing, which it has not a thing to do with. It's one of the most annoying things to me there is, to have purchased a legal program, and then be forced to put the original disc in each time, just for it to start up, when the program does not need the disc any time during play.

I fly X-Plane and it works fine to use a disc image file, so I don't have to put my original in each time, but not with EA games and all the stuff they put on their discs.

No luck

Anything? Trying to be able to do it for Madden 08 and Guitar Hero 3.

I've tried copying the Madden 08 DVD with both Toast and Disk Utility. The copies always pass verification and look fine in the Finder, but Madden 08 refuses to launch with them. In Disk Utility, I've tried sparse disk image and read/write disk image. I haven't messed with all of the partition options other than CD/DVD. Perhaps someone could look at the available options and offer some insight.

I'm always afraid I'm going to scratch the original whenever I use it. All I want is a personal backup to protect my $40 investment.

One option I haven't explored is copying the DVD from a Windows machine, but I don't have one at my disposal with a DVD burner. Might be worth a try.

One last thing: I have an external firewire DVD burner connected to my iMac. Madden 08 won't launch when I mount the DVD using the external drive. The DVD shows up on the desktop, but the app says I need to insert the DVD when I try to launch it. So Madden will only run from the internal drive. Why should that matter?

I might have an answer for Madden.

Yeah, I know, I'm a new guy just dropping in here but I think I found a solution to this. As an owner of Madden 2k8 for the Mac with a bad DVD I was frustrated with the "will Madden recongnize the DVD or not" roulette. But tonight I think I found an answer.

I'm going to test it out for an another day to make sure it works so you won't blame me if your machine get sucked into a time-space singularity if you try this. I will try to provide coherent instructions as possible or as allowed by forum rules. It's not really difficult but I support XP boxes at work so I might be a little more used to mucking about trying to get computers to work. My days are awfully long now but owe it to my fellow Mac gamers. Small in number, but great in passion are we.

BTW this is on a 24" Aluminum iMac running Leopard. But it should work on any Mac running Madden.
