Aperture 3 was just too much for my 1-year old 13" MBP so I got the new base model 21.5" iMac. I might miss the 24" monitor but being able to use the 4GB of RAM from the MBP for a total of 8GB ought to make up for those lost couple of inches. I'm really looking forward to having a discrete graphics card.

This is my first desktop since 2002! Now with an iPad I just can't justify the compromise of power for portability anymore. I hope Apple will give the 13" MBP a real graphics card next refresh to make it an actual desktop-replacement machine like the 15 & 17's. Oh well, I already made the switch and can't wait to see the difference in performance!

Congrats on your new iMac! Please report back on how well the new iMac handles Aperture 3 particularly with adjustments on RAW files if possible. I'm considering the 3.2GHz 21.5" model. I currently run A3 with a lowly late 2007 Macbook and external monitor and as you can imagine it's a struggle!

Congrats on the switch man! Glad that you are enjoying it.

What do you mean by missing the 24"? Do you own a 24" monitor? If so, You do know that you can plug that monitor into the back of the imac and use it to extend your desktop, don't you?

Sorry about that missing detail. I have a 24" Samsung TV/Monitor that also has the cable box connected to it. Unfortunately I'll be selling that since I just don't watch much TV in the office and don't need to extend the desktop.

I'd love a 13" MacBook Pro with a discrete GPU. I'd happily sacrifice the optical drive space for a discrete GPU. My dream setup: 13" MacBook Pro in antiglare with Core i5 2.66GHz, ATI GPU along with a 21.5" Cinema Display in antiglare.

Only thing that makes the 13" less appealing if you are looking to have it as your main machine.

yeah right now I use a macbook unibody aluminum and a 24 inch external monitor looking at buying a refurb i7 right now. I am contemplating keeping my macbook for portability what do you guys think as I do not think I will get much for it in trade at my local apple store. My friend says his is worth $800 and mine has 4gb ram and for that price I may as well keep it for the portability.
