Made the switch to Android

3 week now, and is not that hard.
Had n trusty iPhone 5 for 3 years, excellent phone. But i wanted more storage and faster processor, and... here in Europe an iPhone is really expensive, so I got a Xiaomi mi 5.
I got mine from china, so had to setup everything myself. It wasn't that easy but android is very good, and the MIUI system is nice.
I was never connecting my iPhone to my mac anyway so nothing changes there. Using goole services for syncing works.
$350 for a phone is pretty reasonable, hope it last as long as my iPhone 5.
I am impressed that the user experience in Android is very good, and I like to be able to customise a little bit my phone.

You might get more mileage (years) out of a straight Nexus phone. They receive more updates and are always first to be moved to the newest releases. Plus the uncluttered experience on those is much better than the crape are you see on third party Android phones.

Sounds like you made a calculated decision on what best suits your needs. There is certainly nothing wrong with moving from an ios to an android device. I hope it exceeds your expectations and gives you plenty of usage time.

I went the opposite way I had an iPhone for many years and Android tablets I realized that the expensive Android tablets never got Updates while Apple iPads got tons of updates

So I switched to a 9.7 iPad Pro and a Samsung Note 5 from an iPhone 6 and a Samsung Tab S2

I now have much more fun playing SNES games on the Note 5 like Super Mario World and Metroid and a much better experience on the iPad Pro drawing and surfing with no lag and games like Vain Glory run silky smooth where on the Tab S2 it can barely run well.

Yeah I guess it depends if you want everything to sync. It works very well with iPhone to iPad for example.

So I can see why people want both instead of different platforms

Exactly this. I have ipad air and s7 and Google services make them work seamlessly.

Yeah, I realised that. By the way, the phone is going strong. It's very similar experience to iOS. It's very light and fast, super fast. The camera is not that good, the software is not that refined, but is miles better than my iPhone 5 camera.
I was worried that I would miss my iOS integration, but no, google takes care of that. It's nice to be able to drag and drop things as an external hard drive.
