It is its own game entirely made up of iphone players. There is no connection or crossover at all.

You can actually play Mafia Wars through the new Facebook 3.0 update. It's a little tedious and buggy but works most of the time.

My bad. I didn't realize they changed it.

I play both on Facebook and on my iPhone, and the games are so different, I'm not sure what would overlap if I combined them. Anyone do it successfully and have any feedback?

I think the poster you quoted was referring to the fact that Facebook 3.0 allows you to play Facebook games and view other pages inside the app - they're still referring to the FB version of MW; the iPhone and Facebook versions are still two, uncombined, separate entities
